Training Prospectus

Course Aim

The purpose of this course is to train personnel in the use of the REACT-OR Compliance Tool. The training will equip the student with the ability to execute highly effective and appropriate methods of application with the tool.
To be certified as competent to use the REACT-OR Compliance Tool in a safe and appropriate manner all students must receive a minimum of 7 hours instruction by a certified PS5 Master Trainer. All students at the end of the course must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the REACT-OR, its techniques and methods of application. All students must also pass the written examination by answering correctly a minimum of 75% of the 20 set questions,

Course duration
The course will run for 7 hours with appropriate comfort breaks and lunch

The Training
Course Content

Session 1.
This session lasts for 3 hours (excluding breaks) and covers:
An introduction to the REACT-OR, its history and the ethos behind its design. All Health and Safety issues will be covered and the REACT use of force continuum.


By the end of the first session students will: -
• Understand the principals of the REACT-OR Compliance Tool.
• Be able to describe the REACT-OR and its component parts
• Be able to define REACT and the 5Ts.
• Understand the principal of the Tactical Toolbox.
• Understand the principals of the REACT Table of Escalation Response
• Be able to define the 3 REACT-OR Methods of Application.
• Understand the correct methods of REACT-OR grip.
• Understand the principals of the REACT-OR Activation Points.
• Understand the medical implications of using REACT-OR.
There will be a Q&A session before the students break for lunch.

Session 2.
This session lasts for 3 hours (excluding breaks) and covers:
A hands on session in appropriate REACT-OR physical intervention techniques. Although this section cannot possibly cover every eventuality and situation, it will give the students a solid foundation of skill and knowledge in the REACT-OR methods of application thus helping to bridge the gap that exists between the lethal and less-than lethal options available as standard operational procedures.


By the end of the session students will: -
• Recognise all the basic types of attack
• Be able to understand and guard the comfort zones.
• Understand all 3 Methods of Application
• Be able to execute all of the following
1. A Projection technique (of their own choice)
2. A Neutralisation technique (of their own choice)
3. A Containment technique (of their own choice)
4. A gripping flute technique (of their own choice)
5. Appropriate defences to an unarmed frontal attack
6. Appropriate defences to an armed frontal attack
7. Appropriate defences to an unarmed rear attack
8. The ‘Turn to Containment' technique
There will be a Q&A session before the course ends
